Naked Wines vs Winc Compared

Naked Wines vs Winc Compared

Naked Wines and Winc are both popular online wine clubs that offer members access to exclusive wines at discounted prices. I’ve used both of these subscription services, and I loved each of them for very different reasons. I think they’re both great options for most people because they’re two of the most affordable options with some great inventory.

So which one is the better value? That may be for you to decide after you read this.

Bottom Line Up Front

The better value depends on what you’re looking for. If you want more affordable wines, then Naked Wines is the better choice. But if you’re looking for a wider selection, you should go with Winc. I think they’re both fantastic options, and if I were new to wine subscription services, I would try both before I decided.

Main Differences Between Naked Wines vs Winc

The main differences between Naked Wines and Winc are:

  • Naked Wines offers more affordable wines, whereas Winc offers a wider selection of higher-priced wines.
  • Naked Wines requires a $40 minimum purchase, whereas Winc has no minimum purchase requirement.
  • Naked Wines offers a six-bottle case discount, whereas Winc offers a four-bottle case discount.
  • Naked Wines ships for free on orders of $100 or more, whereas Winc charges a $10 shipping fee on all orders.

Naked Wines Overview

Naked Wines

Naked Wines offers its members access to exclusive wines from top-rated wineries at up to 60% off retail prices. In order to become a member, you must first sign up for a free account. Once you’ve done that, you can browse the selection of wines and add them to your cart. When you’re ready to checkout, you’ll be asked to enter your payment information.

I like most about the Naked Wine structure because I’m 100% in charge of the wines I order. There’s no monthly cadence. I can order whichever wines I want whenever I’m ready.

Naked Wines Membership

To become what Naked Wines calls an Angel, you simply deposit $40 into your Wine Savings Account every month. This account covers most of the cost of your deliveries and allows you to save up for future wine purchases. It also entitles you to exclusive discounts and benefits, such as:

  • Exclusive access to wines not available to the general public
  • Free shipping on orders of $200 or more
  • A 6-bottle case discount
  • A free gift bottle every month when you order a full case

I take comfort in knowing that I can withdraw the money from my account at any time, just the same as I can add money in whatever amount I’m comfortable with at whatever intervals I choose. The only stipulation is that to begin, you have to deposit $40. They also offer full refunds on wines you don’t like.

Another unique thing about Naked Wines is that you do not receive automatic shipments. Most wine subscriptions put you on a schedule, and you receive your wines at regular intervals. With Naked Wines, you are in charge of how much you order and how often.

Wine Offering

Naked Wines

The wine offering at Naked Wines is constantly changing. Still, they typically have around 150 different wines available at any given time. The selection includes reds, whites, and sparkling wines from all over the world. There is something for everyone, and the prices range from $9.99 to $59.99 per bottle.

I appreciate this variety because I like all types of wine. I’m constantly switching up what I’m enjoying based on my mood, preferences, the weather, and what I’m eating.

Naked Wines also offers a Wine Concierge service, a great way to get recommendations based on your taste preferences. I typically have a pretty good idea of what I’ll like and what I won’t, but some people need the extra guidance. Simply answer a few questions about the types of wines you like, and they’ll send you customized recommendations.

Naked Wine Groups

Much like social media, Naked Wines has groups. They’re based on wine topics, and you can interact within these groups, post photos, and engage in discussion. It’s a great way to connect with other members who share your interests. I didn’t participate here too much, but it’s nice to know it’s an option.

What I did like a lot was the winemaker profile that comes with each bottle of wine you order. You can also engage with the winemakers by replying to their posts, reaching out with questions, and following them to see what they’re currently working on.

Wine Voucher

Naked Wines

Naked Wines offers a simple quiz to earn your $100 wine voucher. You must be 21 years of age or older to take the quiz. The quiz consists of 10 multiple-choice questions about wine, and you have three chances to pass.

If you pass, you’ll receive a $100 voucher for your first purchase of $200 or more. I didn’t have much luck here, so I’m not sure if there were some eligibility requirements I didn’t meet or if the voucher was temporarily unavailable when I tried it.

Packaging and Shipping

Naked Wines ships its wines in temperature-controlled packaging to ensure they arrive in perfect condition. All deliveries are expected between 2 and 4 business days from the day you order them. Shipping is free on orders of $200 or more.

Naked Wines currently ships everywhere in the U.S., with the exception of Arkansas, Delaware, Mississippi, New Jersey, Rhode Island, and Utah.

Return Policy

Naked Wines offers a 100% satisfaction guarantee. If you’re not happy with a wine, they’ll replace it or refund your money.

Winc Overview

Winc

Winc is an online wine club that offers members access to exclusive wines at up to 50% off retail prices. In order to become a member, you must first sign up for a free account. Once you’ve done that, you can browse the selection of wines and add them to your cart. When you’re ready to checkout, you’ll be asked to enter your payment information.

My favorite thing about Winc is the cute name and packaging. I always got a surge of excitement when the box showed up because it’s attractive and fun to open. It also comes with a lot of the same paperwork that Naked Wines does, like winemaker profiles, recommended recipes, and other useful information about your bottles.

Winc Membership

As a Winc member, you’ll receive four bottles of wine per month, but you can adjust your shipment frequency at any time. You can also choose to receive all red wines, all white wines, or both. I always choose a mix of both because I like both and I can never decide.

To get started, Winc offers a quiz to get to know you better and recommend wines that you’ll love. The quiz is short – only 5 questions – and takes less than a minute to complete. This was perhaps the most fun I’ve ever had signing up for a wine club because they really took into account my answers and did an excellent job of figuring out what I would like and what I wouldn’t.

They tailer four monthly bottles to your liking. You can rate the wines you receive so that they can better understand your preferences. Rate the wines after you try them, and Winc will continue learning and evolving to your taste buds. This is ingenious, and I can confirm that it really works.

You’ll also have the option to add additional bottles of wine to your shipment at a discounted price.

Wine Offerings

Winc

Winc offers a variety of red, white, and sparkling wines from all over the world. The selection is constantly changing, but you can always expect to find something new and interesting. The prices range from $13 to $35 per bottle.

Winc focuses on curating wines that feature minimal intervention. That means they use sustainable farming techniques and avoid adding chemicals or artificial ingredients.

Believe it or not, Winc also offers vegan wines, which is an awesome offering for those who are concerned about animal involvement in winemaking practices.

As an added bonus, Winc suggests recipes that pair well with all of the wines you receive, and they’ll even through in a few that require you to use the wine for cooking. Assuming you can part with drinking it straight…

Get Involved

Winc allows you to see what others rated the wines they received. These peer reviews are helpful when you’re trying to decide what to add to your cart. Not only do you get detailed information from the winemaker, but you’ll also see what’s popular among other members, so you never miss out on a fan favorite. While I can generally decide for myself, I do enjoy reading what other people think.

Shipping and Delivery

Winc

Winc ships wine no more than 3 business days after ordering, and you should receive the package within 7 days. They’ll send you an email with a tracking number once it ships so you can stay up-to-date on the status of your order.

Shipping is free for all orders of 4 bottles or more. If you order less than 4 bottles, you’ll be charged a flat shipping rate of $9.

Due to current state laws and shipping restrictions, Winc can’t deliver to Alaska, Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, Hawaii, Kentucky, Michigan, Mississippi, New Jersey, Rhode Island, South Dakota, or Utah. However, if you live in one of these states and want to place an order for shipping to a state that permits it, you can do that.

Returns

Winc offers a 100% satisfaction guarantee, which means you can return or exchange any wine you’re not happy with. They’ll even pay for the return shipping. Just contact customer service within 30 days of receiving your order, and they’ll take care of everything.

Alternatives

Naked Wines and Winc aren’t the only wine delivery services out there. If you’re looking for something specific, you may want to check out some of these other options before you decide what’s right for you. I’ve tried all of these, and each of them has its own unique benefits.

Vinebox

Vinebox

If you’re looking for a wine club that delivers wine by the glass instead of by the bottle, Vinebox is a great option. They offer 3, 6, or 12 glasses in each box, and you can choose to receive all reds, all whites, or a mix of both.

For those who are like me, one glass just doesn’t cut it. I want the whole bottle. However, it’s pretty convenient if you find one you don’t like because you’re not wasting the whole bottle.

Vinebox offers a discount on full bottles of anything you do like, so you can order more. However, I found Vinebox to be much more expensive than other subscriptions, and it wasn’t really worth it.

The California Wine Club

The California Wine Club

If you’re looking for a wine club specializing in Californian wines, The California Wine Club is worth checking out. They offer reds, whites, and a mix of both in their monthly shipments.

I personally found the selection to be a little limited compared to other clubs. Still, this is a great option if you’re specifically looking for Californian wines.

They also offer a Pacific Northwest subscription that focuses on wines from Oregon and Washington. They also have a Premier Series, a Signature Series, an International Series, an Aged Cabernet Series, and a Case Club Series that you should check out.

I think California Wine Club offers some of the best value, as long as they have wines you want to try.

Martha Stewart Wine Club

Martha Stewart Wine Club

If you’re a fan of Martha Stewart, you’ll be happy to know she has her own wine club. The Martha Stewart Wine Club offers reds, whites, and a mix of both in their monthly shipments.

There’s nothing spectacular about the wines themselves, but this is the most affordable wine subscription you’ll find. Delivery was prompt – faster than any other subscription I tried.

Wine Awesomeness

Wine Awesomeness

Wine Awesomeness is a wine club that delivers 3 bottles of wine to your door each month. You can choose all reds, all whites, or a mix of both. They also have a “No Surprises” option where they pick the wines for you based on your preferences.

One of the things I like about Wine Awesomeness is that they focus on wines from small, family-owned wineries. This means you’re getting wines that are unique and not widely available.

I also like that they have a “No Surprises” option. If you’re someone who doesn’t like surprises, this is a great way to get wines that you know you’ll like.

Overall, I think Wine Awesomeness is a great wine club for those who want to try something different. They have a good selection of wines, and the prices are reasonable.

FAQs

If you’re looking for a new wine club membership, you probably have some questions. Here are some of the most frequently asked questions about Naked Wines and Winc.

Question: Is Naked Wines or Winc Better?

Answer: It really depends on what you’re looking for. If you want a wine club that delivers wines from small, family-owned wineries, Wine Awesomeness is a great option. If you’re looking for a club that specializes in Californian wines, The California Wine Club is worth checking out.

Question: What’s the Difference Between Naked Wines and Winc?

Answer: Naked Wines is a wine club that delivers only what you order and when you order it. Winc is a wine club that delivers 6 bottles of wine to your door each month. While the shipments are automated, you can cancel them or skip them at any time.

Question: Which Wine Club has the Best Selection?

Answer: It really depends on your personal preferences. All of the clubs offer a mix of reds, whites, and sparkling wines. If you’re looking for a club that specializes in one type of wine, The California Wine Club is a good option for Californian wines, and Wine Awesomeness is a good option for small-production wines.

Question: Which Wine Club Has the Best Prices?

Answer: The Martha Stewart Wine Club is the most affordable wine club you’ll find, but it might not be the best option if you’re looking for unique and fantastic wines. Vinebox is likely the most expensive you’ll find, but there are certain advantages to receiving a glass at a time.

Everything else is in the middle and offers excellent value as long as you can find wines you’d like to try. Naked Wines and Winc are both great options, but I give the advantage to Naked Wines.

Question: Which Wine Club Has the Best Customer Service?

Answer: I found all of the wine clubs I tried to have excellent customer service. They’re all willing to go above and beyond to help every customer. If you have any problems with your shipment, simply contact customer service, and they’ll be happy to help you out.

Final Thoughts

If you’re looking for a new wine club to join, these are all great options. It really depends on what you’re looking for and what you like to drink.

I personally think Naked Wines is the best option, but Winc is a close second. Both offer great value and have a wide selection of wines to choose from. Whichever you choose, you can’t go wrong.
